| IELTS (International English Language Testing System) |
There are two versions of the IELTS test.
Academic module
This is for the students seeking entry to a university or institution offering degree and diploma courses.
General Training Module
This module is for the students seeking entry to a secondary school, to vocational training courses or for people taking IELTS test for immigration purpose.
All candidates must take a test for each of the four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking modules but may choose between the Academic or General Training versions of the Reading and Writing sections of the test. You should seek advice from a teacher or a student adviser if are in any doubt about whether to sit for the Academic module or the General Training module.
Many colleges and universities in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and in many other countries including the US where medium of instruction is non other than English require you to produce your valid score of IELTS for admission and further procedures.
International Development Project (IDP) Australia, Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate UK, and British Council UK administer both, Academic and General Training modules jointly. The local exam representative for Nepal is British Council Nepal situated at Lainchaur, Kathmandu.
Each module has an equal 'band' score of 9, the total score is allocated by calculating the average. In most cases, you need to get an average score of 6 with a minimum of 6 in each module. However, other criteria and your expectation also affect your need.
Since the test requires its candidates to perceive and perform academic level of English through listening, reading, writing and speaking; the learners of this course are first made familiar with the test format, getting them involved in varieties of skill, to build up exercises and uplift their level of using English as well as to make them confident examinees.
EC-MOD/STUDY GROUP conducts IELTS preparation courses for six weeks (30hours), an hour per day from Monday to Friday. The students have an unlimited access to the Self Access Center to practice the skills. Every Sunday, the faculty administers full tests and qualified examiners assess the test papers before they are returned. Students’ assays are provided with teachers’ feedback for improvement. The final IELTS test is taken at the British Council. Tests dates are announced in advanced and therefore students need to register for their test as per the availability of the date at the British Council.
